Chapter 10

We reached the gate to the manor not long after Clover

finished stalling to tell anything about herself. She never really

liked to do that and I cannot say that I blame her. It is so strange

how much I and only a few of us know but yet we also know so

little. The window rolled down and the driver pressed the

button.

The other end of the speaker, someone said, “Name”.

Dad yelled from the back, “Leo Deighton.” The other end said

not a moment later, “Welcome home, Mr. Deighton.” And

allowed the gate to open. The driveway was long and windy but that makes sense in the countryside and having a large manor

house to call home would make you want to have the extra

security.

But before I could even utter a word, we pulled up to

this manor house rather quickly that was in a Baroque style with

dark marble on the front and brick throughout the whole façade.

If I didn’t know what Buckingham Palace looked like, I would

have thought that this was Queen Maude’s private home. It was

stunning with beautiful gardens on the side and a fountain out

the front, overlooking the lake that it went into. I couldn’t

believe my eyes. This was where I am from. My jaw dropped at

Kade said from behind me, “Holy shit.” His eyes were wide like

all of ours were.

I don’t think any of us expected this but how couldn’t

we. They live in the countryside and town is ten miles in the

opposite direction. So, this makes total sense. Dad, who was

smiling, just chuckled at our astonishment and stated, “This

house was built 300 years ago as a pleasure palace for the

reigning prince at the time. It was in good shape but needed

repairs when we got it, so that is what we did. And now, it is one of the best manors in Europe.” I was still staring at it as

everyone continued to pour out of the car. This cannot be real, I

said to myself.

Not entirely sure how to take everything in. I just felt like

everything I knew about myself was easier to understand after

seeing the home. I couldn’t believe this was the manor Chief

told me about. Before I could blink fully to lose my shock, dad

started walking and said, “Baxton will get your bags and take

them to your rooms. I take it you two will be in the same

room?” He was pointing at me and Kade. I nodded “yes”, still

too stunned to speak.

But followed dad into the entryway of the house and it

looked like a grand ballroom! I knew it wasn’t but it was

shocking to say the least. The paintings were all the way up the

thirty-five-foot ceilings and a double winding staircase was the

focal point of the whole room.

I had to pinch myself with seeing all this, hoping it was

real. We didn’t stay long enough in the entryway before dad took

us on a tour of the entire house. It honestly had me so turned around and I asked dad, “Where is the bathrooms? I think this

tour is making my bladder about to explode.” Dad just let out a

booming laugh and told me the directions.
